Only eight days remain until Seattle?s paid sick leave ordinance takes effect, requiring all businesses that operate in the city to comply. If you don?t already have a plan in place, time is running low. This?handy list?shows you how to get started on a plan and be prepared for the September 1 deadline. Beginning September 1, ANY business that has one employee who spends more than 240 hours in a calendar year within the city limits needs to provide 40 hours of paid sick leave! Restaurant industry to raise profile at both GOP and Democratic national conventions

This year, the restaurant industry will be sponsoring events at both the Republican and Democrat national Conventions. There will also be informational briefings on small-business issues and host receptions to focus attention on the local hospitality industry. As chair of the National Restaurant Association Board of Directors, Rosalyn ?Roz? Mallet will represent the restaurant industry at the Democratic and Republican national conventions.

?We?re trying to create awareness of the importance of our industry and get action on our issues from both parties,? Mallet says. ?We spend a lot of time looking at who?s running for the Senate and House and trying to figure out whether they may be able to help us move our issues down the path.?

WRA members invited to special McKenna reception on September 25

The Washington Restaurant Association will be holding the Rob McKenna Fundraising Reception on Tuesday, September 25 at El Gaucho Bellevue (450 108th Ave. NE, Bellevue, WA 98004) following a Government Affairs Committee meeting. The GAC meeting will take place 1:30 ? 3:30 p.m.; the McKenna reception will take place 3:30 ? 4:30 p.m. There is a suggested minimum contribution of $250 for the event.
