FSU named a 'best value' public college by financial magazine

For the eleventh time in as many years, Florida State University has been named a ?best value? public school by Kiplinger?s Personal Finance magazine.

The school ranked No.18 on the list of in-state value, and No.31 in out-of-state value.
For 11 years, the publication has compiled a list of the top 100 ?best values? in public colleges across the country.

?We are putting together a list that helps parents and students put together a list that shows what schools are affordable but offer good academics too,? said Mark Wojno, senior associate editor for Kiplinger?s Personal Finance.

Ranking of the school was based on several things, Wojno said, including the ACT scores of students, the four-year graduation rate and the price of tuition, room and board and books, with and without financial aid.

?Looking at grad rates, about 50 percent of the class had graduated within four years,? he said. ?And that is very important because with the cost of college continuing to rise, students are more anxious to finish their studies within four years.?

Other Florida schools on the list included the University of Florida (No.2 in-state, No. 8 out-of-state), New College of Florida (No.5 in-state, No.19 out-of-state) and the University of Central Florida (No. 39 in-state, No.37 out-of-state.)
