Oil up but gains are modest amid reduced US demand

(AP) ? Oil prices rose Monday, but gains were modest amid reduced demand for oil in the storm-stricken U.S. northeast.

Benchmark oil for December delivery bounced back from a nearly four-month low, rising 31 cents to $85.17 per barrel by midday Bangkok time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The contract fell $2.23, or 2.2 percent, to close at $84.86 a barrel on Friday ? its lowest level since July 10.

Traders attributed the plunge to the U.S. government's decision to temporarily allow foreign oil tankers coming from the Gulf of Mexico to enter northeastern ports.

That will help ease a fuel shortage in the areas hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy, said Victor Shum, energy analyst at Purvin & Gertz in Singapore.

"Right now oil prices are heading up a bit, but they are essentially quite flat," he said. "Many areas affected by the storm are still struggling to get back to normal. That means demand for fuel is also lower."

Brent crude, which is used to price international varieties of oil, rose 26 cents to $105.94 a barrel in London.

In other energy futures trading in New York:

? Wholesale gasoline futures rose 0.7 cent to $2.581 per gallon.

? Heating oil rose 1.6 cents to $2.963 per gallon.

? Natural gas dropped 3.1 cents to $3.523 per 1,000 cubic feet.

How Psychology, Psychiatry Discriminate Against People with ...

How Psychology, Psychiatry Discriminate Against People with Mental IllnessWhile attending the 28th Annual Rosalynn Carter Symposium on Mental Health Policy at The Carter Center last week, it occurred to me that mental health professionals are some of the worst when it comes to discriminating against people with mental illness.

They do this in insidious and subtle ways, suggesting a patient can?t do the things others without mental illness can do. Like hold down a job, get into independent housing, interact in social situations or even just go back to school and get a degree.

They also do this in more direct ways, by suggesting to their patients applying for a job or going back to school that, ?If they don?t ask about mental illness, don?t volunteer that information.? Why not?

Why are mental health professionals helping to contribute to discrimination and stigma about mental illness by making these suggestions?

I had this insight while Graham Thornicroft, Ph.D., a professor of Community Psychiatry at King?s College London, was giving his keynote. He put up a slide that questioned what we mean when we talk about stigma:

What is stigma?

  1. Problem of knowledge = ignorance
  2. Problem of attitudes = prejudice
  3. Problem of behavior = discrimination

Item 1 is really lot less of a problem nowadays than it was 20 years ago. With the advent and widespread use of the Internet, everyone has access to so much information about these concerns.

Items 2 and 3 are what we are really dealing with today when we talk about the ?stigma? of mental illness. It?s really a problem of attitudes and behavior, of prejudice and discrimination.

The last place in the world you would expect to find such problems in attitude and behavior are with the very professionals tasked with treatment of mental illness. And yet such prejudice and discrimination is rampant amongst the profession.

Time and time again, I hear stories of therapists and psychiatrists treating people with things like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia telling their patients all the things they can?t do. Instead of being an encouraging support, they are a wet blanket on an individual?s hopes and dreams (yes, people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia have hopes and dreams just like the rest of us).

Many Professionals Contribute to the Prejudice and Discrimination of Mental Illness

Both healthcare and mental health professionals regularly contribute to reinforcing the prejudice and discrimination that exists for people with mental illness. Perhaps they do so in a paternalistic manner, hoping to spare their patient the pain of rejection or some people?s attitudes in the real world. But patients don?t want paternalism and don?t need to be coddled. They want support, hope and encouragement.

Perhaps the professional honestly believes the patient is simply ?too sick? to participate fully in society. But since there?s no objective measure of what this statement is being measured against, it boils down to this ? one person?s opinion.

Here?s some of the statements patients have heard uttered from their therapists? and psychiatrists? mouths, and my response:

You can?t hold down a job, it requires a regular commitment. While many people in acute psychiatric distress may indeed have troubles going to a job, usually such features are episodic (and less of an issue when a person is stabilized with a treatment regimen that works for them) ? not a permanent character trait of that individual. Many employers are more than happy to make allowances for people with mental illness, if only they?re told ahead of time.

You can?t go back to school and get a degree, it?s too stressful. While people with a mental illness should work to avoid stress, the same could be said of everyone. Once a person finds a treatment that works for them, they should have and be encouraged to experience all that the world has to offer ? including an education of their choosing.

You can?t live on your own. While some people make benefit from the routine and familiarity of a group home or living at home with their parents, most people with mental illness don?t need the rigid structure and supervision of such places. Virtually anyone can live independently, as long as they are given the support and encouragement to do so.

You can?t become a therapist or doctor. This is the most frustrating form of discrimination I hear from graduate schools. I?m not sure it?s based on reality, but consider this scenario. A graduate school has two equal candidates vying for one slot. One has disclosed a history of mental illness and successful treatment, while the other has not. Which do you believe the graduate program is going to choose?

Anyone with mental illness can do anything they want in life. The key is finding a successful treatment regimen that works for them, whether it?s medication or psychotherapy or some combination of the two.

Instead of encouraging people to not ?bring it up if they don?t,? we should all be talking openly and honestly about mental illness. We are a long ways from the dark times when mental illness can?t be discussed. The people who are often holding us back from the light are sometimes the very mental health professionals who are supposed to be helping.

Encouraging people to hide or be ashamed of their mental illness does not help anyone.

Daytrading, Stock Trading, Investing and Forex Trading ...

During the past, stocks pick programs were reserved for and only utilised by trading gurus with enormous corporations. These are programs which reference past market info when investigating realtime market information, taking the whole reach of the market into account, to efficiently exploit the market?s pattern-esque movements and get an exceptionally good read and prophecy on where the market will go next in order that you can trade correctly without having to spend the effort or time doing so yourself. First, a refund guarantee goes a great distance in this niche. Today nevertheless, stocks pick programs have dripped down and become available as the supreme tool in any trader?s tool belt, so here's what you should really know to get the best one. A refund guarantee separates the credible from the dodgy publishers out there, so ensure that it comes attached. It's the disability to deal with the inescapable losing trade that causes traders to chop winning trades short, move stops in the middle of a trade, hang on to losing trades, average down, and fail to pull on the trigger on sound trade setups. Refusing to put up with and correctly handle trades that do not work leads to trading gaffes.

Include how you viewed the market at the time and the way the market action and your signals seemed to meet the standards for a sound trade set-up. Survival Tips Here are 7 steps which can be taken to survive and even prosper when suffering a loss : Set down the trade as it happened : Don?t sweep the loss under the rug! You want to gain from the loss ( that's its price ), so get it down. Judge the trade : Once the trading day is over, return to what you wrote and see what can be learned. Tips for surviving and flourishing as a trader The 5 commonest methods adopted by day traders who try to make are profit are * Trend following ? utilised by all trading firms this plan of action presupposes that stocks that having been steadily increasing may continue to rise. * Covering spreads ? To play the spread or the make the spread essentially means to buy stock at the Bid price and sell the stock at the Ask cost. * Scalping ? it is frequently outlined as an extremely fast trade. Some of the systems can overlook and monitor the market, or select the best pick of stock for trader . The greatest difference between the bid price and the ask price is commonly known as the spread.

You may either select the systems to continually update the new stock statistical data, or use the ones that can investigate and prompt you the bullish stock pick or which is going to plunge. You can experience the results inside few days of use. The most vital issue about trading technique is that whether or not they are trustworthy? Is the data provided correct? How much to speculate in the system before we are able to begin to earn in day-trading? In my private opinion, primarily based on my experience in stockmarket dealing, I've been significantly profited from a selected trading methodology. The better part is the completely refundable guarantee for any unsuitable. The key's to to think first before jumping right in. There'll be moments when you believe there is a great chance to make a trade only to realise that you are going towards a problem.

You've got to look at the situation rigorously before deciding for the very next step. The only possible way to achieve success in the exchange so far as daytrading is troubled is, to make predictions about the stock patterns and attempt to make a capital on the short term market upward swing.

iPad Mini Teardown Reveals Samsung Display And Yes, Stereo Speakers

ipad-mini-teardownApple's iPad mini got the teardown treatment this morning, one day ahead of its official launch in stores. The diminutive tablet gave up its secrets to iFixit's expert disassembly staff, revealing its complex inner workings to the camera. A lot of the parts are familiar, coming from either the iPhone 5 or MacBook Air, and Samsung makes a somewhat surprising appearance as an LCD panel supplier.

NFL and players' union donating $1 million

NEW YORK (AP) ? The NFL and the players' union are combining to donate $1 million to the American Red Cross to help in the recovery efforts in the Northeast after Hurricane Sandy.

Also, the league and its network broadcasters will run TV pregame and in-game messages to promote donations during this weekend's games, beginning with Thursday night's game on NFL Network between Kansas City and San Diego.

Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith announced the donations Thursday.

"This contribution on behalf of all 32 clubs and players throughout the league will help the American Red Cross assist people in need in the affected areas," Goodell said. "We salute the dedication of those who have been working so hard on the rescue, relief and recovery effort."

The NBA and its players' union followed suit with a similar donation to the Red Cross and other organizations, including The Salvation Army, New York Cares and Jersey Cares, that have mobilized to assist the people and communities affected by Hurricane Sandy. And the NBA's broadcast partners will air messages to encourage fans to support relief efforts by the Red Cross.

"Many homes and lives were devastated by Hurricane Sandy and our thoughts, abiding concerns and hopes are with all those affected," said NBA Commissioner David Stern.

"The immeasurable damage and heartbreaking impact of this latest natural disaster continues to shock all of us," added NBPA Executive Director Billy Hunter.

Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson donated $100,000 to the Red Cross on Thursday, and the Orlando Magic donated $25,000.

New York Road Runners will donate $1 million, or $26.20 for every runner in the 2012 New York City Marathon, which is Sunday.

In creating the Race to Recover Fund, the NYRR will support a number of charities involved in the relief efforts, including the Mayor's Fund and the American Red Cross.

"New York Road Runners' thoughts and prayers go out to all of those impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy," said Mary Wittenberg, chief executive officer of NYRR. "On Sunday, as runners cross through the five boroughs we want them to bring with them a sense of hope and resilience. The marathon is not just a race, it's about helping NYC find its way down the road to recovery."

Jack and Susan Rudin and the Rudin Family Foundations also announced a donation of $1.1 million and race title sponsor ING announced a $500,000 donation.

On Wednesday, the New York Yankees gave $500,000 to relief efforts through the Red Cross.

"The damage and destruction to the tri-state area caused by Hurricane Sandy is daunting, but we have seen the great resiliency of this region before," Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner said. "As a neighbor and community member, the Yankees embrace our role of stepping forward and assisting the American Red Cross, which comes to the aid of so many people through their tireless efforts."

The Seattle Seahawks and the MLS Sounders said Red Cross volunteers will be at CenturyLink Field this weekend collecting cash donations to help in storm relief. The Sounders play Friday night and the Seahawks on Sunday.

Fans attending Friday night's game in Oklahoma City between the Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers can bid on Thunder autographed items, including a team-signed ball. A portion of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

Through the A's fund, Oakland's baseball team will be accepting monetary donations to help support those affected by Hurricane Sandy along the Eastern seaboard. And the Community Fund will be sending proceeds to the Salvation Army, which is serving those impacted by the storm with mobile feeding units, shelters and clean-up kits.

The A's Fund will also be sending proceeds to the Humane Society of the United States, which will help animal rescue teams in their relief and rescue efforts, in addition to providing supplies to animal shelters.

After the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March 2011, Hideki Matsui and the A's raised more than $50,000 to help with relief efforts. Matsui separately donated $620,000.

Taking advantage of the NHL lockout, some former players, current coaches and broadcasters for the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues will play a game Nov. 10 in Franklin, Tenn., to benefit both Hurricane Sandy relief and the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University. They plan to play approximately an hour for a suggested donation of $5.

Former players include J.P. Dumont, Stu Grimson, Dan Keczmer, Darren Pang, Tyson Nash, Bob Plager, and Kelly Chase along with Predators assistant coach Lane Lambert.

Online Business Idea: Make Money Building Niche Affiliate Websites

Affiliate marketing is one of internet marketing types. Basically you refer a customer to other merchant, and you get a?commission?for every sale. The advantage of affiliate marketing: There?s no stocking, no dropping and no customer handling!

One of way to do affiliate marketing that I want to introduce is building affiliate niche websites.

What Is An Affiliate Niche Website?
An affiliate niche website is like a normal website that provide information on certain topics (generally product reviews), but it?s designed as a landing page for potential customers before they are redirected to merchant websites. As an affiliate marketer, you will put your affiliate links or URLs on your affiliate niche website. After the potential customers are redirected to merchant websites through your affiliate URLs, they can generate money for you by every sale they make on merchant websites. As simple as that! Some of popular merchants that provide affiliate commission are eBay and Amazon.

What if I don?t have website building skills?
It?s ok if you don?t have website building skills, nowadays there are a lot of services on internet that provide tools and step by step tutorial for beginners how to build an affiliate niche website. If you are interested to find one of this services, you can refer to check this eBay Affiliate Website Builder.

Does it work?
Yes, it works. There are a lot of eBay and Amazon affiliate marketers outside there that make money more than $10,000 per month. Ok, I will give you a simple calculation. If you have 1 small niche website that can generate $100 per month, how about if you have 10 sites? $1,000 per month! Not Bad! With niche website builder tools it is achievable for you to create many websites in short time.

In conclusion, building niche affiliate websites is one of online business ideas that can be a good business opportunity for you.
